A great course! It was fun and exciting. It was presented in a simple, straight forward manner. This course gives you ideas that you can put into practice immediately in the classroom instead of being bogged down by theory and useless information.

icon ESL (English as a Second Language) An Overview

There are more people on the planet learning English as a Second Language (ESL) right now than those who speak it as their mother tongue. ESL is a growth industry and will continue to grow for decades to come. Though English is not the most spoken language in the world, this generation and those to follow see it as a necessity to succeed in our global community

Nearly, a third of the world population will all be trying to learn English at the same time so, teaching English as Second Language is an amazing opportunity for both native speakers and those proficient in English. If you have the qualifications to become an English teacher the opportunities are endless for what kind of job you can achieve.

Here are a few statistics about English around the world:

There are more people that speak English as their 2nd language than native speakers;
English is the language most often studied as a foreign language in the European Union (by 89% of school children);
37 million Americans do not speak English at home;
The most common language taught as a 2nd language around the world is English;
There are more people that speak English as their 2nd language than native speakers;
English is the most widespread language in the world and is more widely spoken and written than any other language.
South Korea is a popular location for ESL teachers with over 20,000 foreigners employed there as English Teachers.
Korean parents spend on average up to 20% of their disposable household income toward extra education outside the public school system.
More people are now learning English in China than any other country. Since China has put more emphasis on learning English, it has had a large impact on its neighbors to put more importance on English and further encouraged the countries that already see English as an important part of their educational programs to push it even more.
  These are just a few examples showing the importance of English and the opportunities teaching can create. It may be a small world but it is definitely a big planet and a Canadian TESOL Certificate will certainly help you see more of that world by opening up jobs all over the planet or even in the comfort of your own home.
